5 Easy Exercises to Kickstart Your Fitness Journey
Are you new to exercising and don’t know where to start? No worries! Here are five simple exercises you can do to kickstart your fitness journey. These exercises are perfect for beginners and can be done at home with no equipment needed!
1. Jumping Jacks
Jumping jacks are a great way to get your heart pumping. Start by standing with your feet together and your arms by your sides. Jump and spread your feet while raising your arms above your head. Jump again to return to the starting position. Repeat this for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
2. Bodyweight Squats
Squats are great for building strength in your legs and glutes. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Lower your body as if you’re sitting in a chair, keeping your back straight and your knees behind your toes. Return to the starting position and repeat. Aim for 10-15 reps.
3. Push-Ups
Push-ups help to strengthen your upper body and core. Start in a plank position with your hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart. Lower your body until your chest nearly touches the floor and then push back up. If a full push-up is too challenging, you can drop your knees to the floor. Try to do 5-10 reps.
4. Plank
The plank is excellent for building core strength. Begin in a push-up position but with your weight on your forearms instead of your hands. Keep your body in a straight line from head to toe and hold this position for as long as you can. Aim for 20-30 seconds to start.
5. Walking Lunges
Walking lunges are fantastic for your legs and balance. Step forward with one foot and lower your hips until both knees are bent at about a 90-degree angle. Push yourself up and bring your back foot forward to step into the next lunge. Alternate legs and aim for 10 lunges on each side.

The Basics of Healthy Eating
Eating healthy can seem complicated, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are some simple tips to help you start making better food choices today.
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
Fruits and vegetables are packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Try to fill half your plate with them at each meal. Fresh, frozen, and canned options without added sugar or salt are all great choices.
Choose Whole Grains
Whole grains like oats, brown rice, and whole wheat bread are more nutritious than refined grains. They contain more fiber, which helps you feel full and satisfied. Look for products labeled “100% whole grain” or “100% whole wheat.”
Drink Plenty of Water
Staying hydrated is crucial for your overall health. Water is the best choice because it has no calories or added sugars. Aim for at least 8 cups a day. If you need some flavor, try adding a slice of lemon or lime.
Limit Added Sugars
Too much sugar can lead to weight gain and other health problems. Be mindful of sugary drinks, desserts, and snacks. Read labels and try to choose options with less added sugar.
Don’t Skip Meals
Skipping meals can lead to overeating later. Try to eat regular, balanced meals throughout the day. Including a mix of protein, carbs, and healthy fats will help keep you energized.
